Paid UA × ASO: The Routing Playbook

Most apps pay premium CPI for traffic their listing wastes. The fix is not more spend, it's routing every campaign to the CPP built for its intent, and feeding the winners back into organic.

01

Why default routing wastes spend

By default, paid clicks often land on a generic product page that does not match the offer, capability or comparison promised by the campaign. Test an intent-matched page against that default rather than assuming the same page suits every audience.

02

Intent clusters, not channels

Group campaigns by user intent, not ad network. 'Freelance-invoicing' is one cluster whether it runs on Search Ads, Meta or TikTok. Give each material cluster its own page when traffic can support a valid test.

03

The CPP matrix

Map the highest-value intent clusters first, then reserve capacity for iteration, controlled testing, editorial moments, seasonal needs and geography-specific variants.

04

The feedback loop into organic

Winning concepts from Custom Product Pages should inform the default product page in a later release. Paid tests can then contribute learning to organic conversion.

05

Attribution model

Adjust for CPP-mediated lift versus default-page baseline. Report incremental installs, blended CAC, and organic lift as three separate lines, never merged. Boards need to see the compound effect.

06

The monthly report

CPI by cluster. Conversion by CPP. Winner-propagation status. Organic lift attributable to paid learning. The three-line ratio: paid installs, paid-influenced organic, pure organic.
